Readiness assessments must verify that each participating institution maintains a minimum 100 Mbps dedicated connection and can assign staff who have completed the Indiana State Library's digital preservation certificate within the prior 24 months. Counties with populations below 25,000 lack full-time archivists, requiring temporary reassignment of extension agents during scanning phases.
The state's 19,000 miles of rural roads and limited commercial freight service outside Indianapolis increase the cost of moving flatbed scanners and servers between sites. Projects must demonstrate secured storage for equipment between county visits rather than relying on daily transport from a central hub.
Demographic data show that 35 percent of Indiana's farm operators are over age 65, creating demand for digitized extension bulletins that predate 1980 but also requiring user interface testing with older adult populations who may have lower digital literacy.
Unlike Ohio applications, Indiana requires proof that digitized files will be deposited in both the Purdue University Research Repository and the Indiana State Library's digital collections to satisfy dual statutory deposit mandates. Equipment depreciation schedules must align with the state's four-year capital asset reporting cycle.
