Existing programs rely on part-time volunteers whose availability drops during planting and harvest seasons in agricultural counties. Faith-based nonprofits attempting to fill this space must compete with limited meeting space, as 68 percent of rural community centers operate on shared schedules with churches and 4-H clubs.
